This Special Issue aims to investigate changes in the production of academic knowledge in Science, Technology, and the Humanities. The main objective is to extend the analysis of the internal organization of the university, and also will consider both traditional and new organizational structures. The way universities are spreading academic knowledge through the communication between departments, research centers, research laboratories, and interdisciplinary units to industry and government. Also, this special issue will consider the new roles of Technology Transfer offices, Business Incubators, Science Parks, and Grant Management Unit in connecting academic knowledge to industry. We also approach the topic from the perspective of alternative models for research and innovation like technological consulting, the transition to an entrepreneurial university including innovation, entrepreneurship, and contribution to regional development in its remit. We will present real cases of university research laboratories and industry interaction for innovation. The authors will present how the autonomy, heterogeneity, creativity, and leadership of research groups and research laboratories can influence to bring knowledge and technology from university to industry.
